Luminis Health improves data flow and reduces costs using DRIS

success2

Following their migration to the EPIC EHR and continued expansion, Luminis Health implements CITI’s Data Retention and Interoperability System in a multi-phase approach to acquire a centralized enterprise-wide data archive solution for their legacy applications.

Background and Objectives

For this solution, Luminis Health turned to Creative Information Technology, Inc. for our Data Retention and Interoperability System, as well as our data archival services. Amongst other things, our solution provided them with a consolidated data set for their clinical, Health Information Management (HIM), Legal, and Compliance users for: o Viewing and reporting capabilities o More informed, real-time point-of-care decisions o Release of Information requests.

Approach and Solution

Working in close collaboration, they implemented our DRIS solution in a multi-phase project. During the first two phases, we successfully archived four of their legacy ambulatory systems (including Nextgen – for their Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, their Annapolis Obstetrics and Gynecology practice, and Chesapeake Women’s Health, as well as the e-MDs ambulatory EMR system).

We also provided integration between DRIS and EPIC. Through this, Luminis Health caregivers could seamlessly access their patients’ archived records directly from Epic Hyperspace using the Interconnect APIs (allowing for single sign-on and patient context sharing). The final third phase (which currently targets the Companion EMR system, the eClinicalWorks [eCW] EMR system, and the MEDITECH EHR system) is presently ongoing.

Outcomes

  • More Informed Decisions through improved data accessibility and data integrity.
  • Dual Improvement in Patient Care and Efficiency – with in-context data viewing from within Epic.
  • Reduced Maintenance Requirements for the four legacy Ambulatory EMRs archived into DRIS
